Linguavision’s voluntary project in Nepal is in Thasikhel in the Lalitpur (also called Patan) district, part of the Bagmati zone. This zone is one of the 75 districts in Nepal. Lalitpur lays on the elevated track of land in the Kathmandu valley on the southern side of the Bagmati River, which separates it from the city of Kathmandu in the north.
The project gives volunteers the opportunity to teach English and other subjects, help in an orphanage with general duties, help with health care and contribute to locals through homestays and cultural exchanges. With the program participation fee, they also sponsor the children and the orphanage.
The orphanage was established in 1996 and legally registered in 1998 in the Lalitpur District office. Mrs. Rai runs it. Most of the staff are her own family members, working as volunteers.
At the moment there are 18 children in the ages 6-16, 6 boys and 12 girls. Some of these children were taken to this orphanage when they were only one week old, others when they were just a few months. As there is no help from the government or an NGO, all donations are given by volunteers. Some sponsor a child, others provide clothes, school materials etc.
If you come and work here in the Thasikhel orphanage, you will gain an experience of a lifetime and make a real difference to these children's lives!
